Friends -

Your voice will be heard! On September 9th, NCPA and Salem Radio Network will present your message - that you do not want government-run health care! The Free Our Health Care NOW! petition represents one of the largest policy petitions ever assembled. Help make it the largest - with just 100,000 more signers the Free Our Health Care NOW! will be the largest policy petition ever presented to Congress. You are making history! And, if possible, join us for the delivery of your petition to Congress (http://www.ncpa.org/pdfs/09012009_media_advisory.pdf).

Donate to the Cause. As you can imagine, fighting against government-run health care is costly, but worth every dollar! If you can help continue the fight, we would certainly appreciate it. Please give, only if you can afford it. Give $5, $10, or whatever you can to help keep the drive alive!

ObamaCare Violates Financial Privacy. Cloaked in the unassuming garment of "fraud protection". ObamaCare in its current form would require the IRS to divulge taxpayer identity information to the new Health Choices Commissioner, including filing status, modified adjusted gross income, number of dependents and "other information as prescribed" by regulation.

Howard Dean: Trial Lawyers, Tort Reform Too Tough. Former Democratic Party chief and presidential candidate Howard Dean candidly admitted to a town hall audience last week that "the reason tort reform is not in the [health care] bill is because the people who wrote it did not want to take on the trial lawyers...that's the plain and simple truth."

Although Mr. Dean's honesty is appreciated, it isn't comforting. As this NCPA summary explains, tort reform should be an integral part of health care reform. Moreover, according to an NCPA analysis, tort reform lowered health care costs for Florida's businesses and employees. Texas, like Florida, has also benefited from tort reform. Governor Perry recently explained that because of tort reform Texas doctors now spend 27 percent less on insurance and applications to practice in Texas have increased by 57 percent. Many of these doctors are opening practices which serve rural and poor Texans. Why? With tort reform they can now afford to practice there.

As Texas and Florida demonstrate, tort reform is an effective way to decrease cost, increase access and improve quality of health care. What's truly amazing about Dean's statement is that unwillingness to upset the trial lawyers' lobby outweighs the desire to improve American health care.

What can you do to fight ObamaCare?

Educate All Americans. ObamaCare represents a threat to the fiscal and medical health of all Americans. As taxpayers and as patients, we simply can't afford government-run health care. If you have friends and family who think the health care debate doesn't affect them, have them read the following articles. They'll reconsider.

  • Take them here for an excellent "big picture" review of the U.S. health care system.
  • President Obama recently pitched his policy proposals at a town hall meeting in New Hampshire. If they believe every well-spoken word, they may want to see this.
  • Send them here if they think the cost of ObamaCare won't fall on the middle class.
  • Do they think that ObamaCare will remain at 1 trillion dollars? The Senate Joint Economic Committee has reason to believe otherwise.
  • Massachusetts has a government-run public option. The NCPA sees a few problems.
  • Think that liberals are the only ones trying to fix health care in the U.S.? Think again.
